“What can I offer the Lord for all his goodness to me?” (Psalm 116:12) Stewardship recognizes that we are not the owners of our lives, our time, our talent and our treasures, but we are only managers. We will have to give God an account of how we used all that He has given us. The idea of accountability is essential to understanding stewardship. A steward is one who manages something he or she does not own. A Christian steward recognizes that our possessions, talents and time are all gifts from God. In the end, we will be held accountable for the way in which we manage these gifts. Our parish is blessed with many ministries that benefit and serve our community. The primary purpose of our parish ministry is to instill in all of us a deeper awareness of God in our lives. Stewardship challenges us to consider where we place God among our priorities. Is He first or is He last? How important has He been to us? Is everything we do in our daily lives pleasing to Him? If not, why not? Each year when we evaluate our Financial Stewardship, we are asked to consider the material things God has given us, and determine what is a fair amount to return to Him. At this time as we celebrate Ministry Commitment we reflect on the time and talent with which God has blessed us. Please look at the various ministries available in the parish and decide how you can best serve in light of time and talent. Should you continue in your present ministry? Should you try a new ministry where you feel you can make a contribution? If you are joining a ministry for the first time, you will discover what it means to serve others and be blessed by God in a new way. It’s your decision!
